Founder, Picker, Surfer, Friend: A Q&A with Tim Parr of Caddis

Tim Parr has done a lot of cool things in his life. He once crushed a job interview that consisted of surfing with the founder of Patagonia. He gave up a successful career as the founder of a outdoor lifestyle company to become a traveling bluegrass dobro musician. His current cool thing is being the founder of Caddis, which he calls a shitty cult but which is, in fact, a highly lovable eyewear brand.

We've been friends with Tim and Caddis for years, and we were stoked that he was willing to answer a few of our favorite life-on-the-road questions.

Personal motto: Find the service entrance. Use it.

Dream car:  ’65 Ford Falcon….blue.

Favorite bumper sticker: FUCK YOGA

Best vacation read: Anything with a good cover so my poolside companions think highly of my intellect…something like Yuval Noah Harari’s “Nexus” would do it. That would crush it poolside.

Next trip or dream trip (your choice): I travel too much to have a "dream trip” right now, but I leave Wednesday for Austin, TX. So on this next trip, I’ll dream up a “dream trip”, but it might look a lot like home.

Road snack: Self doubt sandwiches wrapped in cellophane. Crust still attached.

Driver’s seat or shotgun: Always driver’s seat…unless Liz Lambert is around and we’re driving a very large car on the small streets of Southern Italy…at that point I’m shotgun.

Favorite travel memory:  Driving. Fishing. Picking Bluegrass. Daily and on repeat.

Road trip soundtrack: John Prine’s Fair & Square album, and the Hella Aqui bootleg recordings from 2019 or 2020.

Far West favorites: Western short sleeve shirts, the leather crossbody bags, and anything Filthmart makes.
